WHAT A PROGRESSIVE STORE CAN ACCOMPLISH. To make it possible to buy at such an advantage that goods may be retailed at less than wholesale price it is necessary to at all times have an exceptionally efficient buying organisation. When this buying organisation has command of thousands of pounds of liquid cash, the results accruing are indeed astonishing to the average individual. A short time ago when a woollen mill made an offer of 5000 pairs of blankets at an unusually low figure for cash, H. and J. Smith, Ltd., were in a position to accept it at once. 5000 pairs is a tremendous stock —in fact this blanket deal is said to be the largest on Southland’s record. The quality of the blankets leaves nothing to be desired, they are of pure colonial wool, while they are full regulation size. In passing the cash savings on to the public of Southland, Smith’s principle* of “How much can we give, not how much can we get,” necessarily kept the profit at a very low ebb as the prices show. The first delivery is practically all sold, and until the arrival of the next delivery the gap is being filled by drawing on our stock of high quality blankets. Double bed white and grey all wool blankets, usually 35/-, sale price 29/6. H.J.S. specially made white double bed blankets with border, usually 45/-, sale price 35/—(advtJ
