WAIHOPAI SCHOOL

MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Waihopai School Committee was held last night, there being present Messrs R. M. Strang (Chairman), E. B. Paul, W. Agnew, W. A. Brown, and W. Carswell (secretary). The Headmaster reported that the attendance was as follows:—Week ending October 3, 492, roll 539; October 10, 494, roll 536; October 17, 468, roll 532; October 24, 503, roll 534; October 31, 501, rod 534. The attendance shield for the periods mentioned was won by the following standards: St. VI, 97.8 per cent; St. H, 96.5; St. HI, 93.2; St. V, 98J, and St. H and V equal, 97.38. He also reported that the children at the Park School were taking a keen interest in the flower plots. A letter was received from the Railway Department advising that special concessions would be given for school excursions, and details of the various resorts were set out for the information of the Committee. It was decided to write the Railway Department thanking it for the information, and expressing approval of ite attitude towards the excursions.

It was arranged to hold the annual breakup for the infant classes at the school, and to hold in the Victoria Hall, in the evening, the break-up for the standards, at which a programme would be provided and the prizes distributed. The School Improvement Fund was shown to be in a satisfactory state, and the Committee hoped to give effect to the improvements drawn, up at the beginning of the year. It was proposed to asphalt a considerable area of the grounds, and a Committee was set up to make inquiries, and to report to a special meeting of the full Committee. Messrs Challis and Bell were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month.
