FASCISTI RIOTS

BLACK SHIRTS BREAK LOOSE REIGN OF TERROR IN TURIN DISORDER IN OTHER PARTS OF ITALY. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (The Times). LONDON, June 24. (Received June 24, 11.50 p.m.). The Times Rome correspondent says serious Fascist disorders occurred at Turin during the week-end. Bands of Fascist! overran the streets, entered cafes and restaurants, terorising and beating peaceful citizens 20 of whom were seriously injured. The Fascisti then tried to storm the offices of the newspaper Stampa, but were driven back by Carabiniere. Other Fascisti entered the private residence of Senator Frassati, editor of the Stampa, and considerably damaged the furniture. Fascist violence is recorded in other parts of the country.

(Since the triumph of the Fascisti which put Mussolini in office there have been

minor outbreaks of disorder which have been dealt with great severity by the leader, but shortly before the recent election in Italy, signs of revolt appeared in the movement and Mussolini suddenly intervened with a reorganisation which deprived many high offices in Fascism© of their rank. It was generally stated that the Black Shirts were displaying a tendency to get out of hand and troubles were expected. The murder of an opposition deputy took place recently and this shook the movement badly. The Turin newspaper Stampa has been criticising Fascisms severely and this is probably the explanation of the violent assault on the newspaper office and the editor’s residence. Disorders in other parts of Italy riggest concerted action.)
