THE DEFEAT EXPLAINED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, November 20. (Received November 20, 11.20 p.m.) A meeting of the Nationalist Party, after discussing the defeat of the Government, unanimously voted confidence in Sir George Fuller. Mr Perdriau, who was responsible for the defeat, explained that his reason for voting with the Opposition was to achieve an inquiry into the allegations that the ratepayers were suffering an injustice owing to the provisions of the Valuation Act. He sought a statement from the Minister when the Estimates were before the House, but as it was not forthcoming, he was forced to cast his vote which took the business out of the hands of the Government. Sir George Fuller now promised an inquiry into the matter and Mr Perdriau will support the Ministry. Later. In the Assembly, Sir George Fuller moved that it be a matter for urgency to consider a motion providing for the recission of the vote of Friday last. He said if the latter were not rescinded, the Government was not prepared to carry on. The motion of urgency was carried by 50 votes to 36. The recission motion was then debated at great length. An agreement has been arrived at between the Progressives and Nationalists by which a Government will be formed.
