KILLED ON BRIDGE (Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, Febmarj’ 20. An accident occurred on the railway line with the result that Thomas Dwyer, a middle aged man, single, so far as is known, lost his life and a companion named Miller, a middle aged man, was injured. Dwyer was employed in the gut house at the Kaiteratahi freezing works and Miller at Oppenheimer’s casein works. At 6.50 p.m. the two men started to walk across the Kaiteratahi railway bridge from the direction of the station, with the intention of pro ceeding to the freezing works. When half wey across, a special train proceeding towards Gisborne approached. The driver applied the emergency brake and Miller jumped off the bridge to the river bed thirty feet below. He injured his head with a projecting stringer. Dwyer was struck by the engine and fell through the bridge. When picked up he was dead.
