SALES OF WORK

ST. JOHN’S. The annual sale of work of the St. John’s Girls' Club was opened yesterday and will be continued to-night. As is usual with this fixture, the arrangements in connection with it are well carried out. The stalls are nicely arranged, and are loaded with tempting articles. Yesterday afternoon and evening the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium, where the sale is being held, was crowded, and good business was reported. A musical programme arranged by Messrs Page and Bray added materially to the enjoyableness of the function. To Miss Gideon (president) and Miss Forsyth (secretary) much of the success attending the sale is due. Following are the stalls and principals ; Work stall. —Misses Thomson and Poole. Children’s stall. —Misses Turner, Taylor and Walker.

Sweets stall.—Misses Bryce and Hazlemore (2). Art stall. Misses Featherstone and Campbell. Produce stall.—Misses Crofts and McNatty. Flower stall.—Misses Goldie and Quick. Tea rooms. —Misses Vickery mid Carson. Competitions.—Misses Butson and L. Thomson.

Fish pond.—Misses Eileen and Doris Page

ST. MARY’S

The success that attended the opening day of the St. Mary’s sale of work, which is being held in the Victoria Hall, exceeded expectations. It was originally intended to hold the sale for three nights only, hut owing to the great quantity of produce and other saleable commodities that are being donated, it has been decided to hold the sale on Saturday night also. The function was declared open by the Rev. Dean Burke, and from then until closing time the hall was a scene of hustle and bustle, the ladies plying ail the wiles known to trap the unwary into handing over all his or her spare coin. The arrangements in connection with the sale are very complete, and the stalls arc nicely and attractively laid out. The musical part of the function is in the capable hands of Mr A. R- Wills, and needless to say is all that one can desire. The pivot of'the organisation is, of course, the secretary, and this responsible position is in the very efficient hands of Miss Baird. The financial results last night were reported to be very satisfactory indeed, and it is quite safe to assume that by Saturday night the financial help given to the Convent and Marist Bros’ schools will be very considerable, for which purpose the sale was inaugurated. Following are the stalls and principals ; Produce stall No. I.—Mrs Win. Baird.

Produce stall No. 2 Mesdames Brogan anti Maloney. Work stall.—Mrs M. O’Byrne. Sweets stall.—Miss Harrington. Mysterious parcels.—Misses Mary McCarthy and Miss Kirwan Tea rooms. —Miss Baldwin.
