On August Ist Mr G. Cruickshank, S.M., completed his sixteenth year of occupation on the magisterial bench, nine of which he lias spent in Invercargill. A Christchurch telegram records the death yesterday of Mr Herbert (V>le, a well-known resident, and for many years a partner of (he late Mr T. E. Taylor, M.P. News has been received that Captain W. H. D. Bell, of King Edward’s Horse, eldest son of Sir Francis Bell, leader of the Legislative Council, and formerly member for Wellington Suburbs, has been killed in action.
Captain John Rollons, of the Hinemoa, who underwent an operation for appendicitis some weeks ago, was able to return to his home on Tuesday (says our Wellington correspondent). He is still very weak, and will not be able to resume duty for some time yet.
