BAPTIST CHURCH.
The sale of work, the proceeds of which are in aid of Baptist Church extension, held in Ashley’s Hall yesterday, proved to be entirely successful from every point of view. The function was opened by the Mayor (Mr John Stead) in a happy little speech, and thereafter business was brisk. The various stalls were most tastefully arranged, and in this connection those responsible are entitled to great credit. A baking competition which was held proved to be a great attraction, and the exhibits were pronounced to be of the very best. Mrs W. Lewis was in charge of this department, and the successful competitor? were Mrs Anderson, Mrs Gideon Scott, Miss F.. Dewc, Miss I-iewis, and Miss Martin, Following were the stalls and stall-holders : Plain sewing stall. —Mesdames Wright, Walker and Hughes. Fancy sewing stall. —Mrs Wise, Miss Wright and Miss Dewe. Produce stall.—Mrs Maddocks and Miss G. Frost. Sweets stall.— Miss Euric Ashley. Flower stall.—Miss L. Dewe. Bran tub—Misses Ruby Dewe, Brick, and Frost. Refreshment stall. —Mesdames F. Stevenson, J. S. Barnett, Pate, and Goodwich.
