AT THE ELEVENTH HOUR
DEBT MUST BE PAID. (Per United Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH. July 13. A North Island farmer named Michael Daniel Murphy was arrested on the Drayton Grange at Lyttelton to-day for a debt, just as the vessel was about to leave for South America and England. The claims were for £BB commission on the sale of his farm, for which judgment had been obtained, and £6 cash advanced. Murphy was taken before the Magistrate at Christchurch, and ordered to pay the amount claimed forthwith, In default two months’ imprisonment. He was, when arrested, in possession of a draft for £350 on a London bank.
