Edendale Estate Settlers and Proposed School

To the Editor. Sir,—At the last meeting of the Education Board the proposed school for Ota Creek came up for discussion. One ‘of the settlers here suggested if the Board intended to close the Waikana school, about six miles from Mataura, that they consider the advisability of moving it to Ota Creek. Mr Mac Gibbon spoke of the proposal as preposterous ; the road being too hilly and the distance and cost too great. The other members did not express any opinion; it may bo they had none. Now, what are the facts ? The

school could be taken down in sections, placed in 'waggons and hauled by tra«tion engine and safely placed on the site at Ota 'Creek for something like £3O-, Mr Mac Gibbon could find that this was' right by making enquiry at his own door. Is it preposterous to think of spending such a sum to provide a school for us with forty children. Such a sum would soon tot up in coach contractors’ charges. The Board may think better of the position and send out their carpenter, if they have one. to report. I hope they will again consider our case which is very pressing.—l am, etc., BLOCK C. Edendale, 4th May. .
