The State Government lias received a circular from the Ottawa Board of Trade advocating that a new Imperial telegraph service be designed to unite the Mother Country telegraphically with her territories in both hemispheres. The primary object is to facilitate long distance cabling by cheaper oversea telegraphy and thus foster the development of trade. Recently the statement was circulated that Germany was negotiating for the purchase of the Island of Timor. The Commonwealth communicated with the Imperial authorities, who replied that enquiries made did not show any grounds for the rumour.
