WELLINGTON. Aug. 3. As the outcome of representations from persons in country districts, the Post-muster-General has decided that, at isoInted places where there is no bank, cheques aggregating ft fixed amount, drawn hy well-known firms in favour of settlers, may be. cashed at a post-office, provided the bank on which the cheques are drawn guarantees to honour them, up to an amount to be fixed by the dr a wer. hunk and post-oflice. It has also been arranged that cheques drawn by locul bodies win be accepted on the local body concerned indemnifying the postoflice trgainst loss through forgery or other fraudulent practices. Cheques will n.lso be accepted under certain conditions as deposits for credit to a Savings Bank account.
