Received Sth, 9 p.m. This was another beautiful cool day and the attendance of the public for an off day was the record one. Watson made a wretched start in the Flying Stakes, the favourite being out of it from the fall of the flag. Wallace, the winner, covered the last six furlongs in 1 min. 134 secs. Quiver evinced a decided disinclination to face the starting machine in the Oaks. She refused three times and eventually was half turned round when tho bar was released, and Moore never attempted to start in pursuit of the field, which went away at a canter, the first six furlongs taking 1 min. 49J secs. The public were of opinion that Watson was equally to blame with the jockey, but the stewards considered Moore’s action so suspicious that they afterwards held an inquiry and decided to withdraw his license as a jockey, the public receiving the announcement with silence. Kimberley fell in the Second Hurdles. Havoc scored a phenomenal victory in the Spring Handicap, his exploit evoking a tumultuous demonstration of applause. Following are details of the racing : —

Flying Stakes—Wallace (Morrison), 1 ; Nobleman (Tierney), 2 ; Bruin (Power), 3. The other starters were Fortunatus, Ariki, Onward. Bluecap, Birksgate, and Capstan. Betting—2 to 1 against Ariki, 3to 1 Bruin, 7 to 1 Wallace and Bluecap. Wallace jumped off with the lead, Ariki getting badly away. Wallace, who was never headed, won by four lengths, a length and a qnarter separating the second and third horses. Time—l min. 27J secs. Oaks Stakes—Regina (Simmons), 1 ; Athata (Bridger), 2 ; Vere (John). 3. The other starters were Sola and Quiver. Betting—6 to 4on Quiver, 4to 1 against Regina. The barrier was released when the favourite was half turned round and Moore returned to the paddock, having made no attempt to join the field. Regina won easily by three lengths. Time —3 min. 6J secs. Second Hurdles — Favour (12.0), 1; Apsley (12.9), 2; Duke of Kent (11.1), 3. Fourteen started. Betting—4 to 1 against Apsley, sto 1 Ixion, 8 to 1 Favour. The race resulted in a terrific finish, Favour winning by half a head, a neck separating the second and third horses ; Whalebone was fourth. Time—3 min. 51 secs. Spring Handicap—Havoc, 8.2 (H. Morrison), 1; Preston, 7.10 (Pearson), 2; Destiny, 7.8 (Moran), 3. Fifteen started. Betting—s to 1 against Havoc and Possible, 7to 1 Preston. Havoc, who occupied a bad position for the first six furlongs, came with a brilliant run in the straight and won by a length, Preston three lengths in front of Destiny ; Golden King fourth. Time—2 min. 84 secs. Royal Park Stakes—Fortunatus (Shaw), 1 ; Dreamland (101 b penalty), 2; Pilot Boy, 3. The other starters were Tarcoola, Ruenalf and Port Admiral. Betting—6 to 4 against Ruenalf 3 to 1 Pilot Boy, 4 to 1 Dreamland, 12 to 1 Fortunatus. The favourite was never prominent during the race. Fortunatus, although getting all the worst of the start, assumed command at the distance and won easily by a length and a half, five lengths dividing the second and third horses ; Tarcoola fourth. Time—2min. 394 secs - Veteran Stakes —Bessie McCarthy, 7.9 (Ramage), 1 ; Lady Trenton, 8.13 (James Gough), 2 ; Warminister, 6.7 (Tindall), 3. Sixteen started. Betting—2 to 1 against Nada, 10 to 1 Lady Trenton and Bessie McCarthy. Won easily by two lengths, Warminster a length behind Lady Trenton; Nada, carrying 8.2, fourth. Time—2 min. 37 secs. (By Telegraph.) Christchurch, Nov. 8. At the secaud day’s racing of the C.J.C. Spring Meeting there was a large attendance. The starting machine was used in three races with the greatest success. Following are the results : —

Middleton Handicap Hurdles (once round and a distance) —Melinite ,(12.2), 1 : Minerva (9.2), 2; Kapua (11.3), 3. Three others started. Won by a neck ; five lengths between second and third. Time — 3 min. 4 secs. Dividends, L2 15s and L2 9s 6d.

Criterion Handicap (seven furlongs)— Mount Royal (7.9), 1 ; Mohaki (8.5), 2 ; Britomarte (6.13), 3. Twelve ochers started. Won comfortably by a length and a half ; two lengths between second and third. Time—l min. 28 secs. Dividends, L 6 4s and L 8 9s 6d.

Derby Stakes (mile and a half) —Stead’s Bluefire, 8.5 (Derritt), 1 ; Goodman’s Casket (8.10), 2; Rathbone’s Blarney (8.7), 3. Three Star, Colebeck, Artilleur and Murmo also started. Blarney was first away, followed by Artilleur and Three Star and was still in command as they ran past Cutts’, with Colebeck next and Casket, Artilleur, and Three Star following, with Marino whipping in. As they commenced to go down the back stretch Colebeck supplanted Blarney and Casket went on second, with Blarney next, and Marino and Bluefire together last. Colebeck was still in front passing the kennels and Casket and Blarney were still second and third respectively, with Artilleur fourth and Binefire last. Colebeck was still showing the way to Casket and Blarney as they ran round the top turn, while Marino, followed by Bluefire, was moving up. Colebeck and Casket landed in the straight side by side, but before the distance post was reached the former was in difficulties and Bluefire, making her effort on the outside, caught the otheis just inside the distance and going on wqn very easily by a length, Blarney, three lengths away, third, Colebeck fourth, Artilleur fifth, Marino sixth and Three Star last. Time—2 min. 42| secs, Dividends, LJ. 18s 6d and LI 14s. Juvenile Stakes (5 furlongs)—Loveshot (8.0), 1 ; Golden Fleece (8.7), 2; Bloodshot (6.11), 3. Nine others started. Won by a neck after a tremendous finish, the third horse half a length away. Time —1 min. 24 secs. Dividends, LlOl 14s and LSI 16*.

Metropolitan Stakes (mile and half) — Hobbs’ Prime Warden, 8.11 (Cochrane), 1 ; Reid’s Skirmisher, (8.4), 2 ; Fraser’s Royal Rose, (7.9), 3. Thirteen others started. Won by a length and a half, three lengths between second and third, Chaos fourth, Impulse fifth, and An Revoir sixth. lime —2 min. 36 secs. Dividends, Ll 7 2s 6d and L 22 10s.

Wairarapa Relief Fund Two-year-old Plate (four furlongs)—Clifford’s Safeguard, (9.2), 1; Cutts’ Nautilus Shell, (8.2), 2; Butler’s Cannon Ball, (8.0), 3. Five others started. Won by a length, a length and a half between second and third. Time—50j secs. Dividends, L 6 is 6d and L 5 7s. Epsom High Weight Handicap (one mile)—Busybody (8.3), 1; Speculator (9-2), 2 ; Good wood (9.2), 3. Nine others started. Won easily by two lengths, Good wood a length away. Time—2 min. 444 secs.
