Received 4th, 7 p.m. Statistics for 1888 nhow that the population of Australasia had increased by 126,000 during the year. New Zealand beads the list in excess of births over deaths. The trade of all the colonies amounted to 1/121,859,000— equal to a little ovtr L 33 per head of the population, Victoria imported most largely, exceeding her' exports by L.10,000,000 in value. With the exertions of S. Australia and New Zealand all the colonies imported more than they exported. South Australia had the largest trade— equal to L 39 per head* New Zealand being sixth in order, with L 22 13a.
