The annual report of the Oddfellows Manchester Unity shows 10,906 members, with 93 lodges, the total worth of- which is £113,661. The farmers of two or three districts are petitioning the Government for an extension of time for the payments falling due on their selections, owing to bad seasons. Several fine water discoveries through sinking have been made about 150 miles north-west of Port Augusta, thus doubling the carrying capabilities of the runs in summer. Reports from the Northern Territory state that very heavy rains had fallen and the roads were impassable. Nine and a half inches fell in 24 hours. Nearly all the Chinese gardens were swept away. Two more steamers with Chinese on board were on the way from Hong Kong to Port Darwin."
