CELEBRATION OF THE MARRIAGE OF THE PRINCE OF WALES.

Southland folk are not, as a rule, very demonstrative, and we had some slight misgivings that Friday last would have been reckoned 7in.Ua diet. We were agreeably surprised by the result The sports, which took place in the morning, and the ball, which came off at night, were both well attended ancl well conducted. The luncheon in the middle of the day attracted a large number of ladies and gentlemen. The "spread" took place in a large marquee on the Cricket Ground, and whoever was the caterer (we omitted to inquire, being fully occupied at the time) showed himself a thorough judge of what was necessary. His Honor the Superintendent presided, and proposed " Her Majesty and the Koyal Tamily," and afterwards, " 11.K.H. the Prince of Wales and the Princess Alexandra. '' It is scarcely necessary for us to say how those toasts were responded to. The cheering was such as none but British subjects could have been equal to, and none but the Queen and her famtfy have commanded. Mr M'Arthur proposed " His Honor the Superintendent," responded to most enthusiastically. We have rarely had the pleasure of being at a social gathering which was so scccessful. The weather was splendid, and the games well contested, aud the interest kept up to the last. We subjoin a list of tlie winners of the prizes :-- Highland Fling— Colin McDonald. The ball was held in the evening in the commodious store of Messrs. Morison, Law, ancl Co., and was fully attended. The supper and decorations were under the management of Messrs. Shaw and Culnane, of the Alhambra Cafe, and reflected great credit on that enterprising firm. Southland was very fortunate in being able to secure the professional attendance of the Buckingham Family, who " discoursed sweet music " till somewhere about five in the morning. Our worthy contemporary says he left the party to so "to press ;" we decidedly had the best of him. then, for we left shortly before daylight, " tO gO tO bed," Which we accomplished.
