OBITUARY.

JAMES RftYSON. Mr James Bryson, of Otatara, died on Sunday last after a comparatively short illness. He had reached his 58th year, and was a man of sterling character, respected by all who knew him. He was a skilled boatman and familiar with every part of the estuary. He was a skilled bushman, and in his prime a first-class axeman and sawyer. He was looking forward to the rapid development of Otatara where he had carved out a home for himself and family, when stricken with a complaint which proved fatal. The funeral took place on Tuesday and was largely attended, the mourners including a number of early settlers.

MRS WM. TODD. " The old familiar faces." have been passing- from us very rapidly of late. On Saturday last the community had to mourn the death of a popular resident and Mr William Todd and family the loss of an exemplary -wife and mother. We refer to the passing away of Mrs Todd, wife of Southland's veteran auctioneer, Mrs Todd, who 'was in her 72nd year, arrived in Invercargill in the early sixties, and before her marriage lived with her sister, Mrs Gr. S. Crouch, ■wife of the then owner of the Southland News. MRS JOHN ROBERTSON". At the Bluff, on Wednesday last, Mrs John Robertson passed away at the advanced age of 85 years. Mrs Robertson lived iu Avenal, Invercargill, in the early days, but had lived fot many years at the Port, where her husband for some time carried on business as a bootmaker.
