Woodlands Notes.

Mr Mc'Pherson, our popular station master, is away on his annual leave, and Mr Mackley is wearing the cap. I notice the railway department have places fire-buckets on the station. They contain ONLY water which must not be used for mixing purposes, but for fire-extinguishing. The grass grub has. taken a firm hold, and in one paddock I noticed that the grass has gone entirely. I hope our bowling green doesn't suffer, or Mr Robertson will be doing a war dance. We should set aril our own way now with Government votes., Mr MacGibbon, the aspirant for the Mataura seat, gave ai very interesting address on Tuesdas' evening, and intends to make a big fight.

We always like to heajr of success in Woodlands, and I want to teli you bow well our townsman (Mr Teith) is getting on. . His hobby is Hoi stein cattle, and he has some beaut Uu l specimens. I had a look at them the other day, and for goodnatured stock they would be hard to beat, while for butter they are out on their own. He sold a cow to Mr Teighton, of Glenham. He has also disposed of an eighteen-month old bull to another farmer at a very good figure, and if he has any luck he intends to go to Palmerston North show and secure new blood.

The champion line has been imported to that district, and some stock has been imported from a cow yieldbig over 30Tb of butter a week. If Southland farmers want a cow that is-worth the name, the Holstein ca?i knock spots of any of them.
