The postal authorities hare rewired ib* formation from Lyell of a serious coach aeoident which occurred to the mail ooaoh running between Lyell and Beofton. The eoaoh waa driven by Jones with the following passenger* t—Mr and Mr* Mitchell, Meun Barley and two aoni, Olenny, Onmmini, and Dixon, and left Lyell yesterday afternoon. On reaching Bed Jacket, a portion of the bank gave away, letting down the hind wheel, and the coach wa* precipitated orer the bank a distance of ISO feet on to the edge ef the Buller Hirer. Wben the accident occurred the king-bolt came out, and the drirer escaped by being polled orer tije front of the ooaeh by the team. Jonee then hastened to the nearest station for assistance, and in consequence of no medical man being arailable a doctor was sent from Westpert. Mr Mitchell is knocked about on the head and face, is hardly., recognisable, and partly insensible j Mrs Mitchell’s back is injured rsry seriously, and she baa completely lost the use of her legs j Mr Qlenny has a lag broken and is much knocked about 5 Mr Dixon has a leg and arm broken and is a good deal knocked abont j Mr Cummins has a bruised arm, it is sprained or broken, and a had wound about the head. There are no farther particulars as in whether the children are injured. The Postal Department wired for all assistance to be tendered to the sufferers. Lamb. A farther telegram from Lyell state* that the mails were all recovered this morning, Mrs Mitchell’s spine is paralysed and on* leg is broken; she is also very badly injured on the head. Mr Mitchell is badly knocked abont, but not seriously. Mr Dixon’s head ia very badly hart, and he ia alio internally injured. One of Mr Glenny’s knees is oat of joint and crushed. Mr Onmmins has left for Beef ton hospital, he is not seriously hart. All the others are uninjured. A doctor is now in attendance.

All injured in the coach accident have been removed to Lyell, where they are being attended to by Dr Gaze of Westport. The ooaoh is now at the bottom of the eliS on the river beach, and is but little damaged. Dr Gaze reports hopefully on the can of Sirs Mitchell, who was most injured. The escape of the passengers from instant death is regarded as wonderful.
