CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER.

Per Press Association. Christchurch, September 1. At 5 o’clock to-night, severe southerly 7 squalls struck the city. After heavy hail suow set in and has been falling steadily ever since (7 p.m.) Already 7 there is a thick coating of snow on the ground, and at present there is every Indication of the snowfall being a very heavy one. The snow cleared up shortly 7 after 9 o’clock, when fully two inches of suow had fallen. The suow was followed by rain, with intermittent suow showers. The sudden change in the weather conditions will detri mentally affect the many - cut-door gatherings arranged in connection with H. M. S. New Zealand’s visit. Very title information is obtainable from country districts to-night; but it is understood the snowfall is heavy
