CANNIBALISM.
TWO TRADERS KStIED. (Per Press Association,} Wellington, August 12. A Sydney island steamer reports tlie murder of two white traders on one of, the outlying islands of the new Britain group. The victims were surrounded by a horde of savages and butchered, thsir bodies being cooked and eaten. The natives concerned are showing further hostilities. A punitive expedition was dispatched and surprised a well armed force of natives at Kocopoi, and a desperate encounter resulted in sixty natives being shot and others made prisoners.
The expedition visited a second village and punished the murderers.
