SOUTHERN MAORI SEAT.
SIR JAMES CARROLL TO SELECT A CANDIDATE. Per Press Association. Christchurch, Jan. 31. Sir James Carroll addressed the Maoris at Tadiiwi last night regarding the vacancy for tho Southern Maori seat, Ho said ho would address the electors in all parts of the district, after which he would suggest a name of a certain person to represent them in Parliament. Pie "hoped tho electors would agree with his choice, especially as it was only a uniter of about six months to another election.
At the close of tho meeting a motion was e rried to leave the selection of a candidate to Sir James Carroll.
Some indignation was expressed when it was announced that though the writ had been issued, tho rolls had not been published, and tho people did not know whether they were entitled to vote.
