A SENSATIONAL SUICIDE.
Per Press Association. Dargaville, Nov. 30. The suicide by shooting in the left lung of Frank Pavlevies, a native Herzegovinian, at Maugawhare, on. Saturday .night, produced somewhat sensational statements from Gtoatians’ evidence at the inquest thle morning. It appears that Britishers chased the deceased on Wednesday, owing to his having with another compatriot obtained a county road 1 contract. It was admitted that some unnaturalised so-called Austrians were working on various Croatian road contracts. A semi-disguised feeling of enmity on the partj of Britishers here has been apparent since the gumdiggers were tasen on other work. The police were instructed by the coroner to inquire further into the charges of threats by Britishers. The inquest was adjourned’ until to-morrow afternoon. There is also simmering discontent owing to foreigners being employed on the Kaibu railway extension works.
