HEMP EXPORTS.

LOSS OF £226,000 ON THE YEAS.

The total quantity of hemp exported from New Zealand for the year ended 31st March, shows a decrease of 56,508 bale’s, or roughly 11,300 tons, which Jat £2l per ton, figures out at a loss to the country of £326,000. The quantity graded for export for 1908 was 132,535 bales, and for 1909 only 76,027. was graded for the mouth of March, 9269 bales, and for the corresponding month of 1908 11,791 hales. Pine and good fair hemp show an increase for the month and the chief fibre expert reports that the quality was excellent, not Jone bale of fibre or superior being rejected or condemned.
