Ooomhes, judges at the recent show, Stating that they would make no £rge for their services. Also from W. F. Eikiugtou returning his priio money. From Mr A. Buchanan, Palmerston North, notifying that ho would give a prize for farmers’ cows, value G3s, owner not to show in pedigree cattle classes, sire of exhibit must ho in Herd Book, to bs awarded on butter fat test; open to cattle bred on any Government experimental station by imported hull, provided the Government subscribe equal amount in prize money. ’{Mr Thomas Blakeley, judge ofjlat , sheep, wrote as follows —“I think yon are following on linos which must bring the Show to the front as a farmers’ show. I think if you could set a live weight on freezing sheep where dead weight is specified it, perhaps, would do away with a certain amount of unpleasantness when awarding prizes; or leave it entirely to the judges to give it to the sheep they consider most suitable. I think the large proportion of your sheep are what we would consider coarse and hadlv shaped and would he classed second grade at the freezing works. I think your district is perhaps not so suitable for the flue breeds as are the hard dry plains of Canterbury. By what I saw' while up north I should say the large breed of sheep are the most profitable for your farmers wiieu keeping a permanent flock, and think you _shouU raise your freezing weight to 721 b, as a number of your sheep were unfinished, which I put down to the owners trying to koen_ near the weight specified. In having breeds like Eomucvs, Lincolns and Border Leicestors at 2-tooth and oyer, under 651bs, means you are showing sheep that were not lit to go away as lambs. The South Dowu-Romney crosses that were at the Show were equal to our host Canterbury, hut in some instances had to he passed on account of their poor skins. ’ ’ It was stated that the competitors who iiad been requested to apologise had done so and had made an ample apology to the judge. The apology was accepted. It was decided to have four VicePresidents. A vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Sandiiands and Haggit for revising tiie rules to bring them into conformity with the Act. .It was resolved that the rule ro voting for officers and committee be tiie same as that of Mauawatu A. and P. Association, and the clause relating to quorum he altered to conform with the Act. Hearty votes of thanks wore accorded to the judges at the late sliow. Messrs Hoult and Sou’s request for a refund of entrance money, owing to misunderstanding the rules, was not acceded to. Thanks were accorded to Mr Buchanan for prize offered and lie was requested to award it to heifers not in milk. Mr J. A. McCrca was elected a member. The Freezing Company having misunderstood the conditions tor judging the five fat wethers for freezing, which should have been judged at the freezing works, and were not judged on the ground as the Company assumed, Mr J, Campion was appointed to award the prize on the report of the Company. fTho chairman reported on tho iutcrview witli the Minister rclatiye_ to obtaining better trucking facilities, and his report was approved.
