WOMEN’S DIVISION

PUTARURU DECEMBER MEETING Mrs G. Ranger presided over the December meeting of the Putaruru branch of the W.D.F.F., which took the form of a Christmas gift afternoon. The room was tastefullydecorated, and that in conjunction with the monthly gardening circle flower competitions gave an atmosphere of festivity. The meeting opened with the National Anthem, followed by the recitation of the creed. The monetary result of the street stall was reported most gratifying, and the’ sales table did brisk business. The president announced that she attended the Tokoroa garden party. The Tirau branch solicited entries for its flower show and enquired the date of Putaruru’s. The social hostesses arranged two humorous play readings which were well, received. Mrs G. Ranger led carol singing, with Mr 3 C. Morris as pianiste. An exchange of Christmas gifts, none of which exceeded 2s 6d in ■ value, followed and the variety was really wonderful. Results of competitions were: floral gift, Mrs Van Veen 1 (later this beautiful box was given to the president), Mrs P. Morrison 2; advanced senior, Mrs W. Van Veen 1, Mrs G. Ranger 2; senior, Mrs P. Karl 1, Mrs T. Galpin 2 and champion bloom; junior, Mrs E. G. Callaghan 1, Mrs J. Voyce 2. The serving of afternoon tea brought a very pleasant meeting to a close. / Gardening Circle The gardening circle met prior to the branch meeting and decided to hold its show on the first Monday in February, 1950. Mesdames G. Bayley and E. Jones were nominated joint secretarie's. The schedule was revised and modified as it was decided to hold the show in the division’s own rooms. The appointment of stewards was deferred until the January meeting.

TOKOROA MEETING

The Tokoroa branch of the W.D. F.F. held its Christmas party meeting in the garden of Mr and Mrs F. Colson. A pleasant afternoon in a beautiful setting was enjoyed by a large party of members and friends. Among visitors who attended were Mrs G. Q, Ranger, of Putaruru, Mrs Selby and Mrs Corbett, of Tirau, and Mrs Corbett, of Lichfield, also several members of the Tokoroa Women’s Institute. Mrs E. W. Noble arranged a newspaper competition which caused fun, and a pea and spoon race was won by Lichfield ladies. A pea gathering competition was won by Mrs C. Lowe. After the exchange of Christmas gifts carols were sung, while afternoon tea was carried out into the garden by the committee and helpers. After this very welcome interlude, there was a treasure hunt arranged by Mrs E. Goodrick, and won, after much searching of the whole garden, by Miss Southerland, a visitor from Hastings, j The hostess, Mrs F. Colson, and the president, Mrs J. Hassell, were both presented with shoulder sprays. Mr and Mrs F. Colson were thanked for lending their charming garden for the W.D.F.F. use. The sales table under a shady tree was very ably managed by Mrs J. H. Blain. The circulating shilling was won by Mrs Peters, of Lichfield. Two competitions in aid of the Christmas tree were decided and won by Mrs H. Gillies and Mrs J. H. Nicholson.

Mrs F. Anderson was responsible for the beautiful shoulder sprays.
