SOUTH AUCKLAND BAPTISTS
DELEGATES AT THAMES Year’s Activities Reviewed Delegates f ram Putaruru Baptist Church visited Thames for the annual meeting of the South Auckland auxiliary of the Baptist Union of New Zealand. Rev. J. C. Macky presided. Reports of the year’s activities indicated an increase in all departments of church and youth work. A remarkable indication- of the spirit of provincial congregations, in common with others throughout New Zealand, was given in the annual self-denial offering for work in India, and at home, the objective of £7OOO being exceeded by £IOOO. An urgent call for famine relief a fortnight later resulted in £3OOO being collected. Items of special interest included the establishment of a provincial Baptist community campsite at Horahora, and of fresh fellowship groups in more remote parts of the province. Special interest centred round the subject of evangelism. Attention was specifically drawn to the menace of alcholism, and attention was drawn to the dangers of the new trust control. A resolution supporting the proposals of the temperance committee of the Baptist Union, was carried unanimously. The annual election of officers resulted in the appointment of Mr. E. Ward as president, and Rev. E. T. Jones as president-elect. The other •executive officers were reappointed - . Rev. Roysiton G. Brown, missionary on furlough from India, who served with the forces there during the recent conflict, addressed the meeting on “Changing India the Christian Ideal.” Among other things he considered Christian missions would return' to East Bengal later in the year.
