HYDRO DEPARTMENT’S DEMAND
POWER BOARD ATTITUDE Protest Against Charge A sequel to the stand taken by the Thames Valley Elective Power Board in not paying the full amount charged by the State Hydro-Electric Department for the quarter ended March 31, was a letter received by the June meeting of the board from the district electrical engineer in Hamilton asking for the payment of the balance of the charge. “I am now in receipt of a reply from head office stating that the submissions of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board is being considered with other boards’ representations of a similar nature. Head office has intimated, however, that the penalty charge in accordance with the aiggeement is accruing on the outstanding amount for the March quarter, that is the difference in the amount rendered of £23,849 and the amount paid by the board, £21,627 2s 7d. The penalty changes are one per cent, from April and 2h per cent, for the 13 weeks from May 1. The engineer stated in the letter that he should be pleased to receive the board’s cheque at an early date for the balance of the amount.” The manager. Mr. R. Sprague, stated that the balance had been paid underprotest. He told the beard' meeting that' if the matter were taken to arbitration as was competent under the agreement the department, in his opinion, would not have a leg to stand on.
