WOMEN'S DIVISION
NINETEENTH BIRTHDAY The 19th birthday of the branch was celebrated at the meeting of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers held in Putaruru last week. Several apologies for absence were received. Mrs. Lithgow, president, welcomed visitors and a large attendance of members. The Tii-au, Tokoroa and Waotu branches were represented, and the Lichfield, Tapapa, Putaruru and Arapuni Women’s Institutes as well. Members from the Plunket Society and the Arapuni League of Mothers were also present. Mrs. Van Veen, former president, presented Mesdames Lithgow, Gu.lla. d and Martin with floral sprays. A number of musical items were then enjoyed, those taking part being as follow: Pianoforte solo, Miss M. Duxfleid; vocal items, Mrs. A. Vincent; violin solo, Mrs. J. Richards; the piano accompaniments being played by Mrs. G- Jones. A humorous play followed, tho character parts being taken by Mesdames V, L. Drummond, G. Bayly,' E, Callaghan and Jones. This item caused great amusement. All the items were enjoyed, and Mrs- Lithgow thanked the artists who had presented such a fine programme. A telegram competition was won by Mrs. Barr, of Arapuni. The birthday cake, made by Mrs. G. Bayly and iced by Mrs. Van Veen, was then honoured, the candles being lit and snuffed out by past presidents. Visitors expressed their enjoyment and good wishes. Afternoon tea, served by the Putaruru committee, brought a most enjoyable afternoon to a close.
