Residents’ Protest A letter of protest signed iby a number of .property owners living in the vicinity was received in respect to the proposed erection of a hand room in Glenshea Street. It was considered that the area was a residential one, and a band room on the site suggested would prove inconvenient. As no building permit for tho hand room had as yet been received, it was decided to defer- the matter until advice in respect to the permit had been received from the building controller. Financial Assistance The Putaruru Municipal Band wrote asking if the board would be prepared to assist them with a loan up to £IOO towards the cost of building its band room. Heavy Traffic Fees The clerk reported that a representative from the Transport Department had called on him recently and had checked over the roads and streets maintenance figures for the years 1944-45 and 1945-46. The necessary return covering these figures' had since been submitted. He also advised that at the request of the chairman he had sent a letter to the Municipal Association advising of the possibility that under the suggested new apportionment of the heavy traffic fees, bor oughg and town districts may receive considerably less than they have done in the past. He also pointed out in the letter that in the Putaruru board’s particular instance the matter would have a severe bearing on the board’s finances for the account for roads and streets purposes.. The association -was asked if it could watch the position.

Estimates The clerk reported that in view cf the uncertainty in regard to heavy traffic fees he had deferred the preparing of the 1946-47 estimates, but suggested that these should now be drafted, considered by the present hoard, and the recommended figures be submitted to an early meeting of the. new borough council. The board agreed with this suggestion. Building Permits The board was advised- that on the request of the Building Controller, applications- by A. E. Roll of Honlour The chairman mentioned that the roll of honour had been taken down from the wall in the Town Hall when renovations were being done, and had not been put back. One had still to be put in order, and he asked members’ opinion as to whether the names- should be in alphabetical order, or in order of departure to the war. It was considered that the names should be in alphabetical order, and it was left to the clerk to enquire regarding getting the work done, and confer with the R.S.A. re the order of names.

Hall Crockery It was decided to obtain prices for some more crockery for the Town Hall. Wandering Horsejs Mr. Morris stated that he had been approached regarding the
