WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The June meeting of the Tapapa Women’s Institute took the form of a birthday party and was held in tho Tapapa School. Mrs. R. Rutledge presided, assisted by Mrs. Stops. The -motto was “Don’t forget the blackest hour is only sixty minutes,’* and the roll call “ A gardening hint,” brought forth some useful information. Members of the executive committees of the Lichfield Women's Institute, Arapuni Women's Institute and Tirau Women's Division were present, as well as visitors from Wellington and Whangarei. Mrs. Rutledge welcomed the visitors. The programme consisted of community singing, vocal songs, fancy dancing, competitions and two very amusing sketches. The birthday cake, made by Mrs. ■Buchanan and l iced by Mrs. F. Anderson, was much admired and enjoyed', the candles being lit and blown out by the president and past presidents. Competition results: Low bowl of flowers, Mesdames E. Speakc 1 and 3, A. Barker 2; scones, Mesdames R. Pevreal 1, Chandler 2. R. Rutledge 3; handwork, Mesdames R. Cochrane 1, A.
