COMING OF AGE

FUNCTION AT WAOTC A 1 large gathering of well over 200 people met in the Waotu Hall recently to celebrate the earning of age of Miss Susie Marsh, only daughter of Mrs. Marsh and the late Para Marsh. The guests were received by Mrs. Marsh, who wore black, and Susie, who wore White. Even though the night was wet and stormy visitors were present from. Te Puke, Hamilton, Morrinsville, Putaruru. and Arapuni. A large bus load of Maoris arrived' from Mcrrinsville and were welcomed in the traditional manner by the Waotu Maoris. Mr. Terei made a speech of welcome and Mr. Kuml Edwards also spoke. Mr. Rangi Thompson replied on behalf of the Morrinsville Maoris. Dancing then resumed, interspersed by songs and other items until supper time, after which a large cake with 21 candles on it was cut by Susie, and all joined in wishing'her “many happy returns.” The presents were opened and placed on display. They covered two large tables find were beautiful beyond description. Mr. Harry Morgan made a capable M.C., and spoke of the honour he felt at being asked to take charge of proceedings. Mr. L. V. Spencer spoke of Susie’s capabilities as a scholar and the good example she is to the native race. Miss Marsh, in a neat little speech, thanked all present for the beautiful gifts and the happy evening. Dancing was then continued' until an early hour, one and all voting the evening a very happy birthday party.
