ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
ANNUAL DINNER Mr. N. L. Higginson presided over a good attendance of members and friends at the annual dinner of the Putaruru branch of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, held recently in the W JDJF.F. rooms. Artists who entertained 1 included Mrs. ,R. Horne, Mr. and Mrs. C. Wood, Mir. Les Haines and- Mr. D. Benge. " f * | Toasts were proposed to the King, ’ the Acclimatisation . Society (Mr. R. (Lee—Mr. E. D. White); the president and secretary. ' In proposing the latter toast, Mr. T. Cotter stated that the society was fortunate in having a president as able as Mr. Lee, who spared no effort in endeavouring to make the society a success. The secretary, Mr. R. J. Gross, had, he felt sure, done a good job in arranging the dinner, but as a comparative newcomer in the branch, would be better known in the future. A competition for the most amusing and entertaining story was won by Mrs. R. Lee. Shortage of Game Some concern was felt among shooting members about the scarcity of game in the district. The president assured those present that every possible effort was being made to breed more pheasants for liberation. Quail was still plentiful, and efforts were being made to preserve grey duck. •A pleasant evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
