EKETAHUNA V. PAHIATUA, The above match was played in Mr Hall's paddock on Saturday, play commencing at 12 o’clock, owing to the non-arrival of the visitors to time.
The reason for this was owing to the fact that a number of the Eketahuna men chosen to play were suddenly seized with la grippe, aud at the last moment substitutes had to lie hunted up, and as a consequence the team was not so strong as it would otherwise have been. Pabiatua went first to the wickets, and wero not disposed of until 111 runs were mode, Chambers making a grand stand for 47 (when ho ran himself out) and Williams (not out) 16. Eketahuna then went iu, but were all put out for 44. and they bad to follow their innings, which closed for 54, making a grand total of 68, or 18 runs behind Pabiatua. Selby made a good stand in the second innings for 21, but the remainder of the team were nowhere (excepting Jack Tarr, whose tongue went incessantly, and it is a wonder the ball did not disappear down his throat). Several smart catches were made during the day, notably by S. Reaney and C. Williams. Mr Hewitt captained the home team and Mr Selby the visitors. Messrs W. Corbett and Black acted as umpires.
