Attemped Suicide by a Woman.
Melbourne, January 30. A woman, apparently little more than 80 years of age, and respectably dressed, created a great commotion at the junction of,Swanstonand Collins Streets, Melbourne, by throwing herself in front of a tram car and crying out that she wanted to get killed. Constable Crowder was quick enough to prevent the woman being injured, and pulled her out of danger. She, however, struggled violently and attempted to get in the way of the car again, and it was only by sheer force that she was carried along to the
watch-house. On tho way she made a spring off from ail approaching I>uh<, nuJ kept crying out that she writs tired of her hfo anJ wished to die. She also stated Ui.it n' an earlier hour ahe went to the YaiF-t to drown herself, hat was frightened away by the presence of some meu who were fishing. The woman was apparently po foctlv sober, and on being brought before the court was remanded for medical examination.
