No More Stout!

“ What shall we do to be saved?" is tlie cry from one end of the colony to the other. A few advise sticking to Stout as the only means of safety ; whilst others (the more cautious | say Stout is too expensive a luxury, and that in these hard times it should be dispensed with. The people have been taking Stout for the last three years. It was only plain Stout when they first became fond of it, and was called the working man's friend ; now, however, it lias had 6uch a high-sounding name conferred upon it that some trickery is suspected, and instead of the new name adding to the popularity of tlie brew, it is having the very opposite effect. It is more costly now, and certainly not so good. When Stout was recommended to the public taste three jears ago a solemn pledge was given that there should be no adulteration ; the vow has not been kept. Lovers of it were told that the sun would cease its motion before tlie “ Plain Bob ” label would be extinguished ; that promise has boon broken likewise. In an evil hour the people's Stout was introduced to royalty ; the old label w-as tom off, and in its place was substituted one that the people could not suffer ; hence from that evil day they have been gradually accustoming themselves to do without it; and no matter what is done now Stout and the people have parted company. The question, however, •• What shall we do to bo saved?” still remains unanswered.
