Nurse Pickering, late of Havelock, has been appointed assistant masseur at the Government Sanatorium at Rotorua. We congratulate this clever young lady on securing the appointment. • ; , \ His Excellency the Governor (Lord Islington), accompanied by two aides, came through from Blenheim yesterday on his way to the Nelson A. and P. Association’s Show. The party called at Mr Fraser’s Commercial Hotel. Many of the ** old hands ” of Havelock and Pelorus Sound will be sorry to learn of the death of Mr A. W. Pullman, which occurred recently at Whangarei. Many years ago he lived in the Kaituna, but removed to Grail Bay, where he brought up a large family. For the sake of Mrs Pullman’s health.the family went to live in the Auckland district about five or six years ago, baton his wife’s, death Mr Pullman came back to the Sound a.nd later returned to Whangarei. The late Mr and Mrs Pullman were noted in the Sound for their hospitality, and played a quiet but none the less useful part in the arduous pioneering work of the Sound. They did their duty as settlers and as parents, and their sterling qualities will long remain fresh in the memory of those who had the pleasure of knowing them.
