Stranding of the Mapourika.

Greymouth, October i. The JJ.S.S. Company's Mapourika went ashore when entering the harbour at x a.m. this morning. When opposite the Tip Head she was struck by an immense roller, her stem being thrown completely out of water. She refused to answer her helm, and struck the North Tip Head heavily, and was afterwards thrown up on the beach, stern towards Jand.

All the passengers, crew, and mails, were safely landed by the ship's boats. Information has been received that the vessel has a hole pierced through her side, and there are three feet of water in one hold, she is kept on an even keel by means of steel ropes, and at high tide on Saturday morning her stern, was afloat, and, although the bow is fast, there is a chance of her being towed off.
