Hotel Destroyed by Fire.

(own correspondent.) Mercer, Friday. Mr F. Murray’s hotel at Pokeno was totally destroyed by fire at half-past 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Very little furniture was saved. The fire is supposed to have originated on the outside of the shingled roof, and the back .portion Of the -building, . ■ caused by some sparks falling from the kitchen chimney on to the roof. The kitchen was a small building at the back of the hotel, which was attached by a hall. The chimney of the kitchen was not as high as the roof of the hotel building. The hotel was insured for / 500. The furniture and stock were instif'ed for .£4OO in the New Zealand Insurance Company’s office. Mr Murray is considered to be a heavy loser.'
