DEATH OF MR J. (SNYDER) BROWNE.
We regret to announce the death of Mr James Browne who died on Thursday night about a quarter past ten, after an illness of four weeks, caused by an attack of jaundice and internal maladies. Mr Browne was 64 years of age, and was one of tne oldest journalists m these colonies He was born in London, snd came out to Tasmania about 54 years ago, where his press experience began. Going over to Victoria he took employment on a station, but he soon took to journalism again at Geelong and Balarat. He was engaged with Mr Vogel, and both came to these Colonies together, and worked on the Otago Times. After editing and owning papers in Picton, Hokiuxa and Greymouth, he went to Auckland, and was tor some years reporter and editor of the Southern Cross and Herald. From Auckland he went to Coromandel and nine years ago settled in Gisborne, where lor some tune he edited the F. B. Herald. A shoit time ago he gave up journalism, and took to a stationery and book store. Mr Browne leaves a widow and six sons and three daughters. His death is deeply regretted by a very large circle of friends.
