THE FAUST FAMILY.
This clever and highly popular family gave their first performance in McFarlane’s Hall last night to a well filled house. That the high enconiuins which have been passed upon them are fu.ly deserved was amply demonstrated last night by the enthusiastic manner in which they were received. The performance opened by an effectively executed overture, and followed by the brothers Ted and Robert who caused much amusement by their performance on the “comic horizontal bar.” The “National Dances" elicited immense applause, whilst H. Von Der Mehden’s comic solo “Old Folks ai Home ” proved him to be a musician of the first ability and a perfect master of his fine instrument. The “ Musical Acrobats "consist of two clever violinists who play in the most varied and difficnlt postures, and with whom is associated “ the youngest acrobat in the world.” The violincello solo by M. C. Ward was splendidly rendered and received well deserved applause. The “Ancient and Modern Statuary” proved the chefd'oeuvre of the evening. The acrobatic leats were performed with such agility and such marvellous ease as to astound the audience and are truly unsurpassable. H. Von Mehdei’s performance on the Xypohone which consists of a small flat instrument laid on a table and which, under the skilful hands ol the musician, armed with a coupie of sticks, produces a mod pleasing effect, and which is followed by the silver-toned band bells. “The Terrible Infants,” which caused immense applause and laughter • concmded an evening’s entertainment snch as has never yet been equalled in this town, and which will undoubtedly prove its own recommendation by drawing a crowded house to-night. • ’
