(own correspondent.) Sydney, September 15. It is announced that the new table rates from Europe will be 2S 8d per word for press messages, and 8s per word for private telegrams. The action by the Bank of New South Wales against the Government, arising out of the withdrawal from the bank of the loan business of the Government, has been concluded, but the result is subject to the decision of a full Court. Acting on the suggestion of the Government of Western Australia, Mr Service proposed that the Governors of Fiji and Wesiern Australia should have seats at the Federal Council to be held in Hobart early in 1886. Advices have been received here from Wilson's Promonitory, stating that at 2 o’clock this afternoon Captain Thompson, of the Greenock steamship Gulf of Carpentaria, arrived with three boats belonging to that vessei. Captain Thompson reports that the Gulf of Carpentaria was bound from Newcastle to London, via Adelaide. ’While off Cleft Island she struck upon a rock not marked upon the chart. The vessel became a total wreck, and sank in 30 fathoms of water within three hours of striking. The crew took to the boats, and effected a landing on Wilson’s Promonitory. No lives were lost.
