Sydney, Sept. 10,
Advices have been received from New Guinea announcing the safe arrival there of Sir Peter Scratchier, High Commissioner, with his attendants, all well.
Melbourne Sept. 10.
A telegraphic despatch has been received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the Governor of Victoria announcing that if the colonies jointly guaranteed payment of /Xsoo annually the Imperial Government is willing to proclaim the Queen’s Sovereignity over New Guinea and give a suitable ship valued /h 8.000 to carry on the government of the country.
