THE WEATHER Last Night's Forecast General Situation: An anticyclone envelops New Zealand, the ot highest pressure lying off the East Coast of the South Island. An extensive depression covers south-eastern Australia and the western Tasman. forecast: Winds south-easterly to easterly at first about and north of Cook Strait; elsewhere, north-east-erly and northerly or north-easterly gradually becoming general; force moderate but freshening particularly over the South Island. Seas: in New Zealand waters, moderate on the East Coast, slight to moderate on the west. Eastern Tasman: Light to moderate but freshening north-east to northwest winds; seas, slight but rising in the southern portion. Weather: Cloudy over most of the North Island, with some scattered light rain in the Auckland province, but improving; otherwise, fair to fine, cloud increasing. however, in the far south-west, with rain developing later. Temperatures: Becoming warmer. To-day's North Island Report Blue skies were reported this morning at Wellington and in the Bay of Plenty, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light easterly breezes were blowing ai Auckland and Wellington, and light to moderate southerlies elsewhere. The barometer had risen steadily during the week-end.
