INCREASED POPULARITY
CAPE RUNAWAY ROUTE From the check he had on the number of tourists using the East Cape scenic highway from Opotiki to Gisborne, via Cape Runaway, the resident A.A. patrol, Mr. D. M. McGregor, said to-day that he estimated that twice the number of travellers were using the highway this year compared with last season. The weather had been favourable, and all he had spoken to had remarked on the splendour of the scenery. The pohutakawas in full bloom lent a pleasing touch of colour to many of the delightful camping sites on the coast. It was learned that the road surface is well preserved, which is probably accounted for by the fact that motorists are compelled to reduce speed owing to the nature of the highway.
