SEALING COUNTY ROADS

NO STATE AID AT PRESS.VI

The Wha kata ne County Council has received a letter from the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. K. Semple, in reply to an inquiry lor information as to the details ot any policy the Government might have adopted in connection with the sealing of county roads other than State and main highways.

The Minister staled that, in view ot the heavy commitments incurred m respect of settlement road metalling and the greatly increased subsidies being made available to county councils generally for this class of work, it had not been possible to oiler county councils subsidies toward the cost of tar-scaling county roads, as distinct from State and main highways. In the circumstances, the Minister regretted that he was unable to let tlie council have any favourable advice on the question at present.
