ROTORUA REPORTS

ONLY MODERATE SIZE

FT SIT DIFFICULT TO TAKE

Although some fair average catches were taken toy anglers fishing in the more sheltered localities, the trout fishing season opened rather quietly in the Rotorua district. The majority of those who were out found the fish extremely difficult to take, particularly from about the middle of the morning, when the rises became almost negligible in most localities. Nothwithstanding an overcast sky, with rain threatening, the conditions were not altogether adverse in the more secluded parts of the various lakes, but a light westerly wind, which later increased considerably, made fishing difficult in the more exposed places, particularly on the Hamurana side of Lake Rotorua. Several anglers were out in this locality shortly after daybreak, but the scarcity of rises proved a disappointment. Some anglers.went home without a fish, the largest catch reported from the area being one of 'three trout of moderate weight. The best results of the day seem to have been secured at the outlet of the Ohau Channel, where from' early in the morning upward of a dozen rods were operating. Shortly after daybreak there was an excellent rise, which continued until nearly 10 o’clock. The limit was secured by Mr. C. B. Peterson, of Rotorua, while several others secured up to six, the fish averaging about 3Hb.
