OX BEEF ADVANCES INCREASE OF £3 PORKER VALUES RISK, WESTFIELD .MARKET (P«r Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. ' At the Westfleld market yesterday beef was penned in larger numbers than last week, and the first-class quality of most of the entries of steers aroused keen competition at fully late rates. The best price for ox beef was £IG ss, an. advance of nearly £3 on last week. A small yarding of cows sold at improved values. Extra choice ox realised 37s per 100 lb; choice and prime, 33s to 365; secondary and unfinished, 27s to 335; prime cow and heifer, 30s to 3Gs; plain and unfinished, 21s to 295; extra heavy prime steers, £l3 10s to £l6 ss; heavy, £l2 7s fid to £ls: medium. £ll 7s 6d to £l2 15s; light, £9 10s to £ll ss; unfinished, £5 to £9: extra heavy prime cows and heifers. £9 to £lO 17s Gd; heavy, £7 to £9 15s; medium, £7 10s to £8 17s Gd; light, £G to £7 7s Cd; unfinished, £3 to £6. There was a large yarding of good quality sheep. For better sorts late rates were realised, 'but unfinished sheep met with a dull sale. Lambs were again penned in small num'bers. Competition was good, values remaining fully firm. Prices ranged from 10s Gd to 29s Gd for primest sorts and 9s to 17s Gd for smaller and unfinished. All classes of calves met with a brisk sale at late quotations, heavy and medium vealers showing a slight improvement. Good quality runners made from £3 10s to £8; heavy vealers. £4 12s to £5 17s; medium, £3 15s to £4 18s: light, £3 3s to £4 Gs: smaller. £2 4s to £3 8s; unfinished and bucket fed, £1 to £2 8s; bobby and rough, 3s to 19s. A 'small entry of pigs aroused keen competition. Bacon values were very firm. Porkers were insufficient for butchers' requirements and values advanced. STORE SHEEP-PRICES UP FAT CATTLE RECEDE STORTFORD LODGE (Pur Press Association.) HASTINGS, this day. The weekly stock sale at Stortford Lodge was held in very heavy rain yesterday. A .heavy yarding of fat jattle met with a falling market, prices being down by approximately 15s a head on last week's rates. Unless the entries were in prime order, the bidding was lifeless. A splendid line of ox beef on account of Mr. Pat Barker topped the market at £l3 2s Gd, and on account of the same vendor a similar line of five Aberdeen bullocks sold to £l3. Other prices ranged from £6 10s to £l2 10s. In the cow beef section prices real,sed up to £9, and from £8 down to £4 10s 6d. To top the market in heifer beef was an entry of one well-grown Aberdeen Angus, averaging about 7501 b., which sold to £9 7s. Other prices realised were £8 and from £7 5s down to £5 12s Gd. Vealers were . poorly represented, and prices from 40s to 70s were realised. The store sheep market showed a slight rise, good lines of well-mouthed five-year-old ewes showing an increase of about 2s on the previous rates. Hoggets also showed a further improvement, making to 20s Gd. A pen of six-year-old ewes running with Southdown rams made to 25s 3d. A line of 350 well-woolled' five-year-old ewes met the market at 25s 3d. Hogget prices realised were from IGs to 20s Gd. Fat sheep prices were on a par with recent rates, good sorts fetching 17s Gd. Other prices ranged from 13s 9d to 17s 4d. Woolly wether hoggets' commanded good prices, the sales realising from 17s to 19s sd. Wethers sold from 24s to 265. EASING IN PRICES FAT CATTLE AND SHEEP BTCI ADDINOTON MARKET (Pur Pmsa Association.) CHRISTCHURCII, this day. There were exceptionally heavy entries at the Aldington stock sale yesterday, and prices eased as a consequence. Next week is the National market, and it is not unusual for heavy entries to come forward at the preceding sale. The day was cold and wet for the seventh Wednesday in succession, and this did not improve the appearance of the stock or the attendance of buyers. Of an entry of about 700 head of store sheep, more than half were sold. The only price of note was 20s 4d for forward two-tooth wethers. The fat sheep penning was the heaviest for seme years, approximating 7500 head. A small proportion of prime sheep sold about 1/- a head cheaper, but light wethers were clown by 2/6 a head and light ewes by 3/-, or about 4/- a head below the export rates six weeks ago. There were heavy passings in the later stages of the market. Prime wethers sold at from 30s to 32s 6d, good 27s to 295, light down to 21s; best ewes 21s, tops to

23s lOd, medium prime 15s to 17s, light 8s to 10s. Five hundred and sixty-five head of fat cattle were penned, a big. proportion of prime steers being included. These sold at fully 20s a head cheaper. Good heifers and cows showed little change. Fat ewes were also penned in larger numbers, with only prime sorts in demand, prices being on a part with late rates. Unfinished lots were dull of sale. Fat hoggets were eagerly sought by exporters, and here again values were fully equal to late rates. The market in the store sheep .seclion generally was quiet, but several iots of aged breeding ewes and store hoggets showed slight improvement. A full yarding of cow and heifer beef came forward and included a large proportion of finished cattle. Competition was keen and values generally showed an improvement on i-last*.week's sale.
