ENGLISH EXPERT ARRIVES

To supervise the assembling and testing of five twin-engined Avrspeed Oxford machines ordered by the Government for the Hoyal New Zc aland Air Force for training and surw; work, Mr. W. F. Locke, aeron >uH

engineer of Airspeed (1934) Limited Portsmouth, arrived by the Rangitatn to-day. Two Airspeed Oxford machines were brought to Auckland last week •ind the other three are expected to arrive within a few months. After the machines have been assembled at Hobsonville air base, Mr. Locke will go to Christchurch to assist in their preliminary operations. He said the Airspeed Oxford was regarded as a splendid type of machine for the training of personnel in the use of big bombers such as the Vickers Wellington, of which 30 at a total cost of £750,000 are on order for the New Zealand Government.

The Vickers-Wellingtons were up-to-the-minute bombers possessing high speed and long range and were relatively easy to manoeuvre.
