WELLINGTON, this day
Men engaged on a new school site at Denniston decided on Tuesday to cease work as a protest against the action of the Government in reducing their wages. The matter was taken up by the local union and referred to Wellington for settlement. Mr. Butler, the secretary of the Labourers' Federation, states that the matter is under consideration by the Government and he has advised the men to resume work.
In 'answer to a question, Mr. Butler said that actually there had been no reduction in wages by the Government. The position was that the work concerned had been transferred from the jurisdiction of the county under award conditions to the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department under conditions of the public works agreement.
